When the New Zealand government comes to purchase their tribal lands, Ahika wants to grab the money and make his life in Australia, whilst his brother Reupena feels duty-bound to remain by the side of their chief father and defend their whenua and culture from colonisation.

A promising Australian schoolboy wins a running scholarship to the USA, but ends up committing a brutal murder and is sentenced to life in prison. 25 years later, he tells his story of accepting his guilt, his spiritual awakening and his remorse as he reunites with his running team, school friends and meets the survivors of the shooting.
